Reverse Osmosis De-Ionized (RODI) water is essentially pure water with all dissolved solids and minerals removed (Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) = 0ppm). Use RODI water to prepare remineralized water from scratch, decrease water hardness, to top off evaporation in freshwater and marine aquariums, when preparing dry fertilizer solutions, for spot free glass cleaning, and so forth.
- Use caution when completing large water changes with RODI water and add a remineralizer to avoid shocking fish.
- TDS levels (ppm) can be measured using a handheld meter and provide a guide for safely matching new water to the existing aquarium conditions.
- Refractometres are used to measure the salinity of water mixed for brackish or marine aquariums.
