Coconut Shells release beneficial tannins like other botanicals, but also provide a natural shelter and a surface for mosses, plants, and biofilm growth. Expect the thicker woody shell to last a couple years in the aquarium. Excellent for dwarf cichlids, corydoras, gobies, shrimp, and so forth. Coconut Shells have been preboiled and are safe to add directly to the aquarium.

BOILING BOTANICALS
Boiling botanical products for 10-15 minutes will sanitize the material and encourage rapid sinking. Epp 'n Flow Aquariums processes many botanical products through sorting, boiling, and baking prior to sending, but it is still recommended to boil dried natural materials before using in the aquarium.
