  • BOILING BOTANICALS

Boiling botanical products for 10-15 minutes will sanitize the material and encourage rapid sinking. Epp 'n Flow Aquariums processes many botanical products through sorting, boiling, and baking prior to sending, but it is still recommended to boil dried natural materials before using in the aquarium.

  • TANNINS

The natural tannins released and biofilm produced by botanical products in the aquarium are beneficial for soft water aquariums, fish, and invertebrates. The tanic, humic, fluvic acids lower the water pH level and soften the water hardness, to align with native habitats. Biofilm results from the natural decompostion of botanicals and provides food for grazing animals.
