The dual sponge filters allows for monthly maintenance of 1 of the 2 sponges, preserving the at least 50% of the beneficial bacteria, therefore minimizing disturbance of water quality following cleaning. 
XY-2830 - Single Sponge Filter, Black
The single sponge filter can be used as a secondary filter. Be careful to rinse in dechlorinated water of similar temperature to your aquarium when cleaning to minimize the disturbance to the biological activity living on the sponge.
