Terminalia catappa (IAL) are probably the most popular leaf litter used in the aquarium industry today for fish health and breeding purposes. Excellect source of tannins that lower the pH and provide antifungal and antibiotic properties in the aquarium. Great supplement when driftwood is nolonger releasing tannins. Safe for shrimp, bettas, softwater fish, and biofilm/ algae grazers.
Smaller size is finally available! These are not too bulky in the nano aquarium, allowing the aquarist to add the entire leaf without having to break into pieces.
Preparation>
Aquatic: Leaves will float if used immediately; boil 15 minutes to sink or soak overnight. Add 1-2 leaves/ 10 gallons/ month; to be replaced as tannins are reduced or when decomposed.
Terrestrial: Rinse briefly.
Store in a cool and dry place.
